Each workspace holds one book per currency (fiat or stablecoin). Books show available (spendable) and held (locked for in-flight payouts or swaps).

Amounts are Ledger minor units (cents, kobo, …). The response includes the currency code and scales so you can format for display.

Live vs sandbox

sk_live_… reads live books. sk_test_… reads the sandbox twin. Balances never cross environments. In Dev mode on the dashboard, partner rails are off — credit books with Bank Simulator, then call the same balances endpoint with a test key.
