# Relationships & purposes

> Allowed beneficiary relationship codes and payout purpose codes.

Use these **exact codes** on create/update. Free-text labels are rejected (`parameter_invalid`).

You can also fetch them live:

* Relationships — `GET /v1/corridors` → `relationships`
* Purposes — `GET /v1/payouts/purposes` → `purposes[].code` (filtered by workspace kind)

## Beneficiary relationships

Pass as `relationship` on `POST /v1/beneficiaries` or `PATCH /v1/beneficiaries/{id}`.

| `contractor` | Contractor |
| `employee` | Employee |
| `customer` | Customer |
| `partner` | Partner |
| `family` | Family |
| `self` | Self |
| `other` | Other |

## Payout purposes

Pass as `purpose` on `POST /v1/payouts` (required).

| `supplier_goods` | Supplier payment for goods | |
| `services` | Payment for services | |
| `professional_fees` | Professional fees | |
| `salaries` | Salaries and payroll | |
| `rent` | Rent | |
| `tax` | Tax payment | |
| `loan_repayment` | Loan repayment | |
| `intercompany` | Intercompany transfer | |
| `investment` | Investment | |
| `family_support` | Family support | Personal workspaces only — not allowed for business |
| `other` | Other | Requires a non-empty `note` |

Business workspaces: omit `family_support`. Prefer `GET /v1/payouts/purposes` so document threshold rules for your currency are included.
