# Balances

> Read available and held amounts on each currency book.

Each workspace holds one **book** per currency (fiat or stablecoin). Books show **available** (spendable) and **held** (locked for in-flight payouts or swaps).

## List books

Amounts are **Ledger minor units** (cents, kobo, …). The response includes the currency code and scales so you can format for display.

## Live vs sandbox

`sk_live_…` reads live books. `sk_test_…` reads the sandbox twin. Balances never cross environments.

In **Dev** mode on the dashboard, partner rails are off — credit books with **Bank Simulator**, then call the same balances endpoint with a test key.
